The 76th edition launches its hostilities on May 16, 2023, before a closing ceremony on May 27, which will reveal the complete winners. To judge the 21 films in competition, the twice awarded Swedish director Ruben Östlund was chosen as chairman of the debates.
He will be accompanied in his reflections by the Moroccan director Maryam Touzani (The blue of the Caftan), French actor Denis Ménochet (As Bestas, Up to the hilt)British-Zambian screenwriter and director Rungano Nyoni (I am not a witch), Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Room) American actor Paul Dano (The Batman, The Fabelmans), Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi (Syndicated Sabour. Stone of Patience)Argentinian director Damián Szifrón (The new savages), as well as French director Julia Ducournau, who won the Palme d’or in 2021 for Titanium.
Several personalities will tread the Croisette for this Cannes Film Festival 2023. Among the filmmakers in competition, let us mention the regulars Ken Loach, Wes Anderson or Wim Wenders, but also like Kore-eda Hirokazu or Nanni Moretti. Ruben Östlund has been chosen as president of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
