CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. This Tuesday, May 23, Wes Anderson is presenting his latest film, “Asteroid City”, at the Cannes Film Festival. He will be accompanied by a multitude of five-star stars. Highlights of the day.
The essential
- It’s a tidal wave of stars that will sweep over the Cannes Film Festival this Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Wes Anderson will walk the red carpet to present his latest film, Asteroid Citywith the cast including Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Adrian Brody, Margot Robbie or even Edward Norton and Bryan Cranston.
- Are there already favorites for the Palme d’Or? Nearly half of the films in competition have yet to be screened in front of the jury, and it is difficult to know which will be favored by the president, Ruben Östlund. According to the press, however, two films already stand out: The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer and Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet. Whether May-December by Todd Haynes divides between the ultra-convinced and the disappointed, when fire brand is also welcomed. Monster Or Youth (Spring) also come out with honours. It remains to be seen if this press list will be turned upside down with the latest screenings, and especially if the jury has also been convinced.
- What are the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival this year? Several moments have come to put the spotlight on the Croisette this year. Johnny Depp received a standing ovation despite his controversial red carpet return, while Harrison Ford received a lifetime achievement award. Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro were present for the world premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon. In terms of controversy, the event was not lacking, between the altercation between the general delegate of the Festival Thierry Frémaux and a police officer (“the incident is closed” assures the press service of the Festival) and demonstrations on the red carpet against the war in Ukraine. Below, find in images the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival 2023, and follow the event live.

To choose the next winning films, he will be accompanied in his reflections by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani, French actor Denis Ménochet, British-Zambian screenwriter and director Rungano Nyoni, American actress and director Brie Larson, American actor Paul Dano, Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi, Argentinian director Damián Szifrón, and French director Julia Ducournau.
