This is a great moment in the life of Souleymane Cissé. The Malian director was honoured, on Wednesday May 17, at the opening of the Quinzaine des cinéastes at the Cannes Film Festival, with the Carrosse d’Or prize. This prize, which borrows its name from the famous work of Jean Renoir, is awarded by the Society of Film Directors. The 82-year-old Malian director, a pioneer of African cinema, had already received the jury prize at Cannes for his film Yeelen in 1987. Yesterday, the prize awarded to him saluted his unprecedented career.
