According to American researchers, cannabis consumption (especially among women) seems to have an influence on sexual desire and pleasure.

What if cannabis use was good for your sexual health? This is at least what emerges from a new study, conducted by researchers from North Carolina.

Cannabis promotes sexual desire and pleasure

According to the researchers, it is the psychoactive effect of THC – the main active molecule of cannabis – which could be at the origin of this increased sexual pleasure.

The psychoactive substance would indeed increase the touch, taste and smell of smokers and thus intensify sexual relations.

Pleasure “tenfold“, validated by smokers – 811 participants in the study (including a quarter defining themselves as LGBTQIA + – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual): nearly 70% of them – men and women – thus reported increased sexual desire and pleasure (including when masturbating). They are also 71% to report a “increased touch and tasteafter cannabis use.

Awakened senses that could promote the smooth running of relationships and the sexual satisfaction of participants; two essential sexual criteria, especially for women.

The study also reveals that the consumption of cannabis by the fairer sex could help them to have several orgasms compared.

State of mind can influence desire

While the majority of participants said “consume cannabis before the act” (76%), only 62% of them had “intense orgasms“right after smoking. But these only happened when the drug was intentionally used before intercourse.

These results may be related to the state of mind of the individual“, note the researchers of the study, before concluding that “The relaxing effects of cannabis may help to increase individuals’ desire or reduce their sexual inhibitions”.

Be careful not to trivialize its use for recreational purposes. Cannabis is by far the most widely used illicit substance in France: almost half of adults (46%) have already used it, even if this rate of experimentation is stabilizing (45% in 2017). Certain damages related to its consumption, including sleep disorders, cardiovascular disorders, or even cognitive disorders remain unknown.
