Cannabis becomes legal in Germany

The legalization of cannabis has been approved in the German Federal Council and will be legal in the country from April 1, reports Bild.

– We are not introducing cannabis in Germany with the law. Consumption in Germany has increased sharply in recent years, says Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.

Swedes are not allowed to go and buy

As of April 1, it will be legal to have up to 50 grams of cannabis at home and 25 grams in public. Anyone who wants to grow at home is allowed to have three plants.

– If you don’t have your own plants at home, you can join a cannabis club where you will grow together and then sell to each other. However, this does not mean that cannabis will be sold in stores as it does in some US states and in Canada. It also does not mean that Swedes can go here to Germany and buy cannabis. These new rules only apply to German citizens or people who have lived in this country for six months, says TV4 Nyhetern’s foreign reporter Jona Källgren.

What will happen next?

– Now this will be implemented. There has been quite a bit of concern here in Germany about how to deal with all these new rules. You may not smoke cannabis near a school or certain other places. The police are facing a certain challenge now to deal with this situation.
