The new Six Nations Police canine unit successfully tracked a person who ran from the scene of a single vehicle collision on Cayuga Road on June 15.

Police said they were notified about the crash at about 8:30 am on Saturday and witnesses were able to describe the driver of the heavily damaged vehicle that had hit a guard rail along the S-bend of the road.

The police service dog was taken to the scene and successfully tracked a person who matched the description and who had injuries consistent with having been in a car crash.

Six Nations Emergency Medical Service came and took the man to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The 22-year-old Ohsweken man has been charged with dangerous driving, impaired operation, an alcohol offense, failing to stop at an accident, driving without a valid permit, using an unauthorized license plate and driving without a license.
