The legislative election campaign officially begins on June 17 and on this date all the candidates will be known. But the left united under the banner of the New Popular Front has already distributed its candidates across the 577 constituencies.
If the legislative election campaign is already in full swing, it officially begins this Monday, June 17. The various parties wishing to have deputies in the National Assembly therefore have until Sunday June 16, at 6 p.m., to announce the candidates they want to present in each targeted constituency. The complete list of candidates from each party or alliance competing for the legislative elections will therefore be drawn up by the Ministry of the Interior on June 17 at the earliest.
But on the left, many candidates for the legislative elections are already known. The coalition of the New Popular Front which brings together several left-wing parties including La France insoumise (LFI), the Socialist Party (PS), the French Communist Party (PCF) and Europe-Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV), in addition to allied parties , has already reached an agreement on the distribution of candidates throughout France. The agreement in question plans to send rebellious candidates to 229 constituencies, socialists to 175 others, ecologists to 92 territories and communists to the remaining 50.
Each constituency will therefore only present one candidate for the left, regardless of the political party to which he belongs. The agreement concluded by the members of the New Popular Front gives the advantage to La France insoumise, which has more than 50 more constituencies compared to the Socialist Party. The distribution was made according to the results of previous legislative elections and the chances of each party to win in the different constituencies against other left-wing forces, but also and above all against the presidential majority, the right and the extreme right. Note that in many constituencies, it is the outgoing deputies who are reinvested.

The Adrien Quatennes case is a task
Many outgoing deputies are reappointed by the New Popular Front for the legislative elections of 2024. But a few names could not be reappointed, because they were replaced by an elected official from another left-wing political family or due to division within The union. This was the case for the ecologist Julien Bayou who was not re-elected in the 5th district of Paris. The environmentalists were not in favor of the reappointment of their candidate who is accused of harassment and the union agreed with this opinion.
On the other hand, it was less simple for the inauguration of Adrien Quatennens in the 1st constituency of the North. The elected official, who was convicted of domestic violence and who was for a time removed from the chamber after his conviction, still has the support of La France insoumise, but his candidacy is not well seen by the rest of the New Popular Front .
The communist Fabien Roussel said in the name of his party on June 13: “We will not support a candidate who has been condemned.” While the general secretary of the PS, Pierre Jouvet, indicated on June 14 that the socialists will not display their logo “on posters and leaflets” of Adrien Quatennens. Result: the elected official is re-elected, but not under the banner of the New Popular Front.
And who are the other candidates for the legislative elections?
If on the left the list of candidates is already well advanced, for the majority, the right and the far right all the names of the candidates may not be known before June 17. With certain alliances currently being built, discussions are likely to continue until the last moment to find out who will send which candidate to each of the 577 constituencies to be won. You will be able to find all the legislative candidates on this page when they are known.
