Confusion gripped several voting centers in the capital this Wednesday, December 11. In the Anosibe district, individuals are arrested by residents. They are equipped with pre-checked ballots in favor of the candidate of the Irmar presidential coalition, Harilala Ramanantsoa.
At the same time, in Andavamamba and Analamahitsy, tension suddenly rose with the arrest of at least seven men ready to vote, in possession of irregular electoral cards that RFI was able to consult. They are suspected by voting delegates of having been “ missioned » to inflate the votes obtained by the candidate of power. Outside the capital, in Amparafaravola, in the north-east of the country, suspicions of ballot stuffing also stirred up the day.
Two candidates claim victory in Antananarivo
Soava Andriamarotafika, the general rapporteur of the independent national electoral commission (Céni), recognizes incidents, but defends isolated cases: “ The voting day generally took place peacefully. It’s true that there have been exceptions in some places and regions, everyone knows that. But we believe that these are isolated cases, which were brought under control in less than thirty minutes by the authorities and those responsible on site. We believe the vote is in order. »
In Antananarivo, the capital of MadagascarHarilala Ramanantsoa, the government candidate, like her TIM opponent, Tojo Ravalomanana, both claim their victory on social networks. Results presented as definitive are circulating online, some in favor of one camp, others in favor of their opponent. Solicited, Safidy, the largest electoral observation mission in the country, invites each party to exercise restraint before the dissemination of official data, at the risk of further fueling a climate of mistrust.
