The time limit for the banking right to be forgotten for former cancer patients has been reduced from 10 to 5 years. The founder of the RoseUp association, Céline Lis-Raoux, brought before the Senate two amendments concerning this right to be forgotten and the removal of the medical questionnaire for certain loans. These two amendments have just been definitively adopted by the Joint Joint Committee.

The RoseUp association welcomes a historic vote”. It is with these words that the press release of the association begins and they sound like a relief. The relief to see that this is the end of a long fight, a ten-year fight that has now been won.

A battle started for 10 years

Indeed, Céline Lis-Raoux, founder of the association, has been fighting for many years for the right to be forgotten to be possible for people cured of cancer, after five years and not ten, as it was the case so far. She told us last week the reasons for her commitment and her hopes: “Exactly ! I have been carrying the concept of the right to be forgotten for 10 years, which I created. It is thanks to the Rose Up association, of which I am the founder, that all this is possible. The passage of the right to be forgotten at 5 years was a campaign promise of our President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron. It is now, a few months from the end of his five-year term, that this will be definitively adopted. Like what, you must always believe in your fight and never give up!

In addition, the abolition of medical selection, via a questionnaire, in the case of certain financial loans, has also been adopted.

    “Very proud of these advances”

It is therefore the deputies and senators who, together, voted for these advances. In joint joint committee today, February 3, 2022. A date that will remain etched in the memory of the members of the RoseUp association, who say they are “very proud of these advances”. For RoseUp, “it is proof that the subject is part of a societal and cross-partisan movement and the deputies and senators are honored to have made the choice of social justice”.

The association is also pleased that “the national representation has validated the abolition of the medical selection up to 200,000 euros of loan per person running until the 65th year of the borrower“, which according to her “will make it possible to remedy the current tendency towards the hyper-selection of risks which weighs on the most fragile the unbearable weight of refusal of insurance, exclusions of guarantees and other unjustified additional premiums, thus distorting the very principle of pooling“.
