Cancer support program gets 16500 in funding

The Cancer Support and Resource Program was the successful recipient of funding at the May meeting of 100 Women Who Care Norfolk.

The program will receive $16,500 to be used for food and gas vouchers for families who travel to and from hospitals for treatment; hydro and gas bill payments; hospital parking passes; mattresses; and home essentials for bedridden patients.

The Cancer Support and Resource Program, which is run by volunteers, helps make the lives of cancer patients and their families as comfortable and as stress-free as possible.

The program helps families connect with government and community agencies, businesses, and service groups. It also offers peer and support groups. Between 50 and 100 Norfolk families are helped each year.

The Cancer Support and Resource Program was presented to the 100 Women Who Care Norfolk as a possible funding recipient by Bettyann Carty.

Since 2014, 100 Women Who Care Norfolk has raised about $500,000 for 32 Norfolk charities. The group has 165 members.
