Canadian hockey scandal – young world champions charged with sexual offense, PM intervenes

Canadian hockey scandal young world champions charged with

The Canadian Hockey Association mediated the matter on behalf of young hockey players, but says it does not know the names of the suspects. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants to clarify the situation.

Team members of the Canadian boys under the age of 20 have been charged with coercion into sexual acts.

Among other things, the players of the team that won the 2018 World Hockey Youth Championship are charged. The suspected act is said to have taken place in June 2018.

The case was debated in the Canadian Parliament earlier this week, although the matter was settled as early as the end of May. Canada wants to know what role the Hockey Association has played in prosecuting.

The lawsuit involved one plaintiff, a 20-year-old woman at the time of the suspected act, who blamed eight hockey players for the act. Some of the accused hockey players have played for the Canadian under-20 national team. The names of the suspects are unknown.

The suspected act is said to have taken place after the Canadian Hockey Federation Foundation Gala and Golf event in June 2018 in the state of Ontario.

According to the charge, Canadian players beat and sexually abused an intoxicated woman in a hotel room for several hours.

The plaintiff claimed a total of C $ 3.55 million in compensation. Specified: $ 2 million in past and future financial loss, $ 300,000 in pain and suffering, and $ 50,000 in mental and emotional stress.

1-2 charges per year for members of the Hockey Association

On Monday, June 20, members of the Canadian Hockey Association were heard in the Canadian Parliament. We now want to find out what role the union played in mediating the lawsuit.

Representatives of the association said they did not know the identities of the suspects’ eight players, although the association mediated the case on their behalf.

The association says it has asked players under the age of 20 to join the court, but did not oblige them to do so. None of the players were present at the trial.

In addition, the association is being heard because over the past six years, the Canadian Hockey Association has had to deal with one to two cases a year of suspected sexual offenses against its members.

At the hearing, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said the way (mediation) in which the charge was handled was “unacceptable.” He recalled that sexual offenses and harassment in the workplace are taken seriously and the Hockey Association does not receive a special service.

– The Hockey Association is no different from others (jobs). We are going to investigate the case thoroughly and all options will be weighed to find out what to do next.

Several other MPs also called for greater transparency in the hockey association and stressed the need for it.
