Canadian decision that draws attention from Meta To be terminated

In a statement made by Meta, it was stated that Canadians will end their access to news on Facebook and Instagram and comply with the C-18 law, which obliges them to pay revenues to media outlets for news texts shared on social media platforms.

According to the news of The National Post, it is thought that the news that can be viewed from Google may be restricted for Canadians if it follows the same method as Meta, which has no obligation to the law if it removes news content.

Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriquez emphasized that the law has not yet entered into force and that Meta does not need to cut off access to news content as it does not yet have any obligations under the law.

Rodriquez pointed out that it is important for the major social media platforms to make the said payment because of the protection of Canadians’ rights.

IT WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN 6 MONTHS

The bill, approved by the Canadian Senate yesterday, will become law after the approval of the British Crown Representative, the Governor-General of Canada, and will enter into force within 6 months.
