The government tightened the climate emissions reduction target only slightly.

The Canadian government has published its new climate emission reduction targets. By 2035, emissions are expected to decrease by 45–50 percent compared to the 2005 level.

Canada is aiming for zero emissions by mid-century.

Previously, the goal was a 40–45 percent reduction by 2030. The tightening of the target is considered by environmental organizations to be completely insufficient. Canada is one of the world’s biggest emitters of climate emissions per capita.

Minister of the Environment by Steven Guilbeault according to which the goal is “realistic and achievable”. So far, Canada’s emissions have decreased by 7.1 percent from the 2005 level.

Prime minister Justin Trudeau the minority government is in difficulties in its climate policy, because its main opponent, the conservative party, demands the abolition of the central tool of climate policy, the carbon tax.
