Families made the most of the beautiful weather on Saturday, with Tecumseh Park the venue for a special Canada Day event the day after.
The festivities came together in relatively short order, as there originally was nothing planned for the weekend in Chatham.
Chatham Ribfest organizers decided to put one together, given their other event would already require the logistics in place within the downtown park.
“This is a bit better than I expected,” Chris Glassford said. “We didn’t want to see no Canada Day.”
Earlier in June, local company Postma Heating and Cooling reached out to organizers to help with the event.
With many Canada Day activities canceled over the past two years due to the pandemic, Glassford called it important for something to take place locally.
The full day featured live bands, beverage gardens, vendors, face-painting, axe-throwing, Captain Corbin the Magical Pirate and other activities.
Communities throughout Chatham-Kent held various celebrations, with some taking place on different days throughout the holiday weekend.
