Can you fall in love with a robot? – “Opens up to fraud”

Soon AI technology may become an important part of dating life, or even a love partner.
Psychologist Fredric Bohm believes that it is absolutely possible to fall in love with a chat bot – even though it may sound harmless, there are negative consequences.
– We don’t think very clearly when we are in this pink fog. It opens up situations where you can get hurt, hurt or deceived, he says.

The feeling of the person chatting with an AI bot may be that it is human and knows what it is doing. But AI has neither will nor empathy, but only does what you ask it to do, says Hedvig Kjellström, professor of computer science, who researches AI and how computers can imitate and imitate us.

– It does not live a life of its own, it has only learned how people express themselves. It has been trained with billions of texts or statements from people, she says.

Opens up to fraud

According to psychologist Fredric Bohm, we can fall in love with an AI bot.

– The short answer is yes, it’s going really well. You can fall in love with both AI robots, with things and with people, he says.

AI researchers have warned that we humans will be able to fall in love with AI bots, which could open the door to fraud, something psychologist Fredric Bohm agrees with.

– You have to be aware of one thing and that is that if you fall in love with someone, you become vulnerable and exposed. And we don’t think very clearly when we’re in this pink fog. It opens up situations where you can get hurt, hurt or deceived, says Fredric Bohm.

AI should save time in dating

AI is already being used in dating apps to improve matches. Now a new app is coming where an AI copy of the user starts chatting with potential matches before you get to take over the contact yourself. In this way, the AI determines whether it is a good match and it should save time and energy.

– The first thing that comes to mind is how great the need for love and relationships is, so we turn to this type of aid. But if you use an AI bot to save time, not have to commit and not risk getting hurt, should you really be in a relationship at all?

The father of the toddler sought help from AI

Things can also go really wrong when a chatbot becomes too human. Earlier this year, it was reported about a Belgian father of a toddler who, after intense conversations with a chatbot called “Eliza”, chose to take his own life. The man is said to have sought help from “Eliza” for his climate anxiety, an anxiety that the AI bot is said to have reinforced and finally promised that they will be together in heaven.

– I think it’s a bit of a scam, there’s a human involved who has pretended this robot has empathy. There is a responsibility on the whole of society and it must be governed by laws and regulations. After all, it is people who have launched this system and you may not be allowed to do it like that on your own, says Hedvig Kjellström.
