Charlotte Baris: Dear listeners, to start this episode I am going to take you back into a history lesson. You may remember what the Treaty of Versailles is. As a reminder, it was signed in 1919 to end the First World War between Germany and the Allies.
On the day of its signature, the “League of Nations” was formed. Another concept that should vaguely ring a bell… It’s the first intergovernmental organization created to guarantee peace. Everything is based on the principle of collective security: peace must be ensured by all and for all, an aggression against a member must be considered an aggression against all the other States of the organization. There are also provisions for cooperation in health, drug trafficking, international law or human trafficking.
However, the League of Nations failed to prevent certain conflicts from exploding. This is what led to its downfall at the end of the Second World War. Another organization then takes over: the UN. But 80 years later, will she experience the same fate? This is the question that we put under the microscope in this episode.
