Mathilde Panot, who was president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, is seeking a new mandate as a deputy for the 2024 legislative elections. She is wearing the colors of the New Popular Front in the 10th constituency of Val-de-Marne.
The one who was president of the group of rebellious deputies in the National Assembly until June 9 wishes to run again for a new mandate. Mathilde Panot of La France insoumise is a candidate for the legislative elections in the 10th constituency of Val-de-Marne, the territory which elected her in 2022 when she ran under the banner of the former union of the left, the New ecological and social popular union. The party naturally reappointed the elected official, who through her speeches has become one of the faces of the party, and it hopes to win again but under the new left-wing coalition: the New Popular Front.
Facing her, Mathilde Panot finds candidates invested by the two other major blocs in the legislative elections: Shannon Seban for the presidential majority and Elise Lin for the National Rally. She will also face the Reconquest candidate Charlotte Sevestre or the head of the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA) list in the European elections Selma Labib.
What results can Mathilde Panot hope for in the legislative elections?
Mathilde Panot has every chance of being re-elected as a deputy in Val-de-Marne. The department voted more for the La France insoumise list during the European elections at the beginning of June: the left-wing party came in first with 21.19% of the vote and beat the National Rally which obtained second place. with 17.59% of the votes as well as the presidential majority which collected 14.24% of the votes.
A trend on the left which should benefit the LFI candidate who wears the colors of the New Popular Front under which the left has united. Mathilde Panot also has reason to be reassured in view of the results she obtained in the 2022 legislative elections: the rebel had come well ahead of the first round with more than 54% of the votes cast and had confirmed her large victory against the candidate of the presidential majority in the second round with 67.63% of the votes against 32.37%.
Close duel between the left and the RN in the polls
The results of the legislative election polls rather announce a victory for the National Rally at the end of the vote, but they give the union of the left only a few points behind: more than 30% of voting intentions for the extreme right while the left oscillates between 25 and 28%. The trends still have time to reverse before the end of the campaign. But above all, these polls reflect trends at the national level while the legislative elections are more like 577 local elections. And in the 10th constituency of Val-de-Marne, Mathilde Panot seems to be the favorite.
