“Can survive oneshots” – New item makes the weakest class virtually immortal, brings another big advantage

At the moment, sorceresses are considered the weakest class in Diablo 4, sharing the spot with druids at best. This could change in the upcoming Season 5. During testing, experts have already found some improvements, including a new legendary that could significantly improve sorcerers.

What kind of item is this?

  • The Aspect of Sly Steps is a new defensive legendary that will be released in Season 5.
  • The item is available for all classes. With the legendary, you use a defensive, deception or macabre skill as soon as you lose 50% of your maximum health. The effect ignores cooldowns, but can only occur every 45-30 seconds.
  • The expert wudijo has analyzed the aspect and says: Sorceresses in particular will benefit from this. They will get a big nerf in Season 5 and will become even weaker, after they are already considered extremely weak.
  • Here you can find all information about the release and content of Season 5.

What makes Sly Steps so strong? The effect is applied before you even receive the damage, meaning the defensive skill is activated as soon as the damage occurs and counteracts it directly.

Sorceresses have the Flame Shield, which makes them temporarily immortal. This means that they can activate the legendary particularly easily. Since the Flame Shield makes you immortal, you ignore a one-shot.

In addition – and perhaps more importantly – with the legendary and the right build, you can potentially leave out frost armor. According to wudijo, this allows you to take other skills with you and create completely new builds that were not possible before (via YouTube).

For example, you could build a “Full Glasscanon” build with almost no health points and still never die. Sorceresses have always had the problem that they could use fewer skills than other classes because 3 of their spell slots are blocked by teleport, flame shield and frost armor – otherwise they cannot survive. That could now change.

Season 5 will be the last season of Diablo 4 before the first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Here is the intro to the DLC:

    “Can quickly become gamebreaking”

However, the expert warns that such effects can quickly lead to new builds undermining entire mechanics.

Sly Steps gives you a sort of “get out of the way” effect, also known as “cheat death.” These skills are actually passive and have a much longer cooldown than 30 seconds. This is a problem especially for hardcore mode:

As a hardcore fanatic, I’m not too happy about this. I played a lot of Sorc in hardcore and generally felt OK there, but also felt a bit more scared than with other classes. So maybe it’s OK to have this effect here.

But I want to warn Blizzard to be careful with such effects. It can become game-breaking very quickly. […] We don’t want to have cheat deaths everywhere again.

In general, the expert seems to be quite satisfied with the state of wizards in Season 5. As wudijo explains, other classes can also benefit from the legendary, although not as well. Due to their low health points and strong defensive skills, it is easier for wizards to activate the effect.

The test for Season 5 has now ended and something could change about the legendary and the class itself before the launch in August. In the meantime, however, there will be new information about the upcoming expansion and the Spiritborn class. Both wudijo and we at MeinMMO will be able to take a look at it in advance: Diablo 4 shows the new class and invites loads of experts to their homes to test it out in advance
