In the statement made by Microsoft, it is argued that the 10-year process offered to Sony will be enough for the company to produce a new alternative to Call of Duty.
While the process between Microsoft and Sony continues, it was stated in the defense given by Microsoft to the CMA that the 10-year period offered to Sony for Call of Duty may be sufficient for the company to develop a production of its own.
An FPS game exclusive to the PlayStation platform
While the contention between the two companies continues, in the defense given by Microsoft to the CMA, Sony is advised to develop its own game. In addition, Microsoft, which guarantees that Call of Duty games will be included in PlayStation’s existing and new consoles (such as PlayStation 6) for the next 10 years, states that after the period, the games will continue to support the last generation consoles.
This means that PS players will not be able to access the Call of Duty series when Sony releases the PlayStation 7, even though the time has expired.
In addition, stating that this period is not planned to be extended, Microsoft also states that the 10-year period is longer or equal to the previous license solutions applied in other mergers.
Call of Duty is such a brand that in a study conducted in 2019, it became the only video game to enter the top 10 among all entertainment brands, joining important brands such as Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.
