Can lose the job – Russian wife is judged as security risk

In 2015, the man, who is in his 60s, started working as an IT consultant for the Swedish Tax Agency, a couple of years later he was employed. The tasks meant that he needed to be in a security class.

When a new security test was conducted in 2024, there were problems.

“An overall assessment of this shows a vulnerability that means that NN cannot remain in security class,” writes the Swedish Tax Agency’s IT department in a request to the authority’s personnel responsibility committee.

Been married for over 20 years

According to the Swedish Tax Agency, the man has a related person with “strong connection to Russia, which is a country that Säpo has pointed out as one of the biggest security threats”. The relative is, according to the man, his wife.

– We have been married for 21 years and together in 25, she is both Russian and Swedish citizens. I have been employed for almost three years and picked it up then, then it was no problem. Now it is apparently it, says the man.

His wife was born in Moldova when it was part of the Soviet Union. Later she moved to Sankt Petersburg to plug.

– She lived there for a little over ten years, then the Soviet fell and she got a Russian pass, she is Russian, says the man.

Wanted supplements about his wife

Two years ago, his security class was lowered and he no longer came to any production data. When he was going up a security class, a new application was submitted.

– Then they wanted supplements, which were almost only about my wife. She has relatives in Saint Petersburg. At the beginning of December, I was told that I got rid of all the security class. Now they want to terminate me for personal reasons, says the man.

He believes that neither his wife nor any of her relatives have any links to the Russian state apparatus.

The Swedish Tax Agency: We make a weighted assessment

The Swedish Tax Agency does not want to comment on security classes, but points out that the legislation and Säpo’s guidance are followed in the security protection work. Nor do they want to comment on the individual case.

“Answering what an assessment looks like in general is always difficult. This is because you always make a weighted assessment where different factors play a role. The reason is to clarify a person’s loyalty, reliability and identify circumstances that may involve vulnerabilities from a security perspective, ”writes the Swedish Tax Agency’s security manager Johan Tell in an email to TV4 News.

He also points out that every case is unique and that it is a weighted assessment.

Cannot be relocated

The Swedish Tax Agency’s staff responsibility committee has not yet made a decision on the case. In his request, the Swedish Tax Agency writes that there are no longer any tasks to the man, or any vacancy he can be relocated to.

They also mention that there was a requirement when employing he would pass the security test. Therefore, you want to terminate him because of personal reasons.
