The Abbott brothers have had a resounding success in Rögle.
Now they are pointed out as relevant for the NHL.
– These are top names, says journalist Elliotte Friedman.
Cam Abbott came to Sweden and Rögle in 2008, and then stayed for a full seven seasons. He did several seasons in Luleå, before his career ended in 2015, and he immediately became coach of Växjö’s J20 team.

After a couple of seasons there, an offer came to take over Rögle, and he did not hesitate to take the chance. Since then, Abbott has had great success with the Ängelholms club, and this season they won, among other things, the CHL, the club’s first title.
Rögle has also played in the Swedish Championship final, and Cam Abbott, together with his brother Chris in the position of sports director, has made Rögle a top club to be reckoned with. And the success in the SHL also seems to have resonated abroad.
According to the prestigious podcast 32 Thoughts, the brothers point out that they are relevant to the San Jose Sharks.
– I have heard that there is an international candidate and you and I Jeff dug into the market for a couple of days to see who it may be, says journalist Friedman in the podcast, according to Expressen.
“Fits the profile”
And so it is Chris and Cam who would be relevant in that case.
– A couple of names that were shared with me were two brothers from Sarnia who work in Sweden. Cam and Chris Abbott, 38 years old, lead Rögle. Chris is the GM and Cam is the trainer. I might expand it a bit when it comes to international candidates, they are Canadians but they work in Europe, says Jeff Marek.
Jeff Marek believes that there is much to suggest that Abbott could be hired.
– These are names that were said to fit the profile. They are a) International candidates and b) at an age where they can work in the club for several years.
