This dam, the start of construction work of which is announced for the end of 2025, is part – for the government – of its policy of anticipating the needs of households and especially industrial sectors.

Imbalance between supply and demand »

The current offer will, of course, be enriched in the coming months by the 420 megawatts of the Nachtigal dam, whose work is nearing completion. But by 2030, this might not be enoughexplains Gaston Eloundou Essomba, the Minister of Water and Energy:

In 2030, the Nachtigal dam will certainly be in production, but we will face an imbalance between supply and demand. To manage the project and construction work on the dam, a company entirely dedicated to this purpose was created, KHPC. The general director Marlène Biessy speaks about the importance of this dam: “ With the 500 megawatts represented by the Kikot electrical development, it will be the largest energy development in Cameroon, but also in the sub-region of Central Africa by 2030, the year of the start of operation. of this arrangement. »

KHPC is a project company owned equally by the State of Cameroon and its partner Electricité de France (EDF).
