Brant County OPP got a call around 11:45 am about a potential drowning near Glen Morris, according to a media release.
The man was kayaking south of Cambridge with a friend, when his kayak rolled. Although he was wearing a life-jacket, he wasn’t able to fully resurface, Const. Jonathan Bueckert told The Spectator.
He was “unresponsive” when pulled from the water, and pronounced dead, police said in the media release.
It’s the third drowning in the river — which stretches around 300 kilometers from the Dufferin Highlands to Port Maitland — in just over a week.
Two women in their late 40s were pulled from the river on Monday and Tuesday last week, after heading out tubing the Saturday before without life-jackets.
Bueckert said an increase in rain can cause “more tumultuous waters” and cautioned people to wear “the proper equipment when traveling on our waterways.”
