The Green Party’s outgoing spokesperson Per Bolund comments on the election of Daniel Helldén, saying that the party board must now listen to the losing side.

– I think that requires sensitivity, says Bolund.

Per Bolund is handing over the task as male spokesperson to the Riksdag member and Stockholm’s former traffic councilor Daniel Helldén after a shock election in which the challenger Magnus P Wåhlin lost by the smallest possible margin.

Bolund tells TT that the even vote numbers, 131 against 130, should raise the question of what the losing side “wants to see”.

– I think that requires sensitivity from the mouthpieces and the party board to listen to the part of the party that did not get its candidate elected, what they want to see. I am convinced that everyone will come together now and feel that we are one party, says Bolund.

“Haven’t split”

Gustav Fridolin, who was the male spokesperson before Bolund, comments on the vote that “it has felt like there are two people with a lot of support in the party”.

– Many have seen advantages with Magnus and many with Daniel, the discussion we have had in recent weeks I feel has not divided but given a broader understanding of how the Green Party should ensure that more people trust us on more issues, says Fridolin.

The Minister of the Environment: Congratulations!

Fridolin was not a representative at the congress and therefore did not have the right to vote, but told TT on Wednesday that he supported Magnus P Wåhlin.

TT: Are you disappointed?

– No, Daniel will be a great mouthpiece, says Fridolin.

Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) congratulates Daniel Helldén in a post on X, and asks if he is prepared to reconsider his views on nuclear power.

“Daniel Helldén wants to prioritize the climate as a new mouthpiece. The last time the Green Party did it, fully functioning nuclear power was shut down. Are you ready to reconsider your position? Or will there be a continued shutdown of fossil-free energy? I would be happy to meet you in your first debate. And congratulations!”
