Calle Halfvarsson has some heavy championships behind him.
Now, for once, he hopes for success.
– Now it’s just a matter of doing the right things at the end of my career so that I can walk straight from a championship, he says to SVT.
Calle Halfvarsson has long been one of Sweden’s biggest profiles in cross-country skiing, despite the fact that the results are more often than not forthcoming. Halfvarsson has had a hard time during major championships, and has often broken and gone home, instead of following through.
“Went very well”
But this winter, Halfvarsson has found something. He rides with much more composure, and that has led to several top positions, and it is not entirely unthinkable that he will fight for medals during the WC, which starts on February 22. Halfvarsson has managed to turn 33 years old and does not have very many championships left.
But he longs very much to, for the sake of the unusual, go to a WC in shape.
– The last championship was not a highlight for me, so I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Now it has gone very well during the season, so I hope that the form will continue. So that for once I can step into a championship with good form, he tells SVT.

Calle Halfvarsson also says that he is changing his plan for this year’s championship.
– I think a little differently this year. I will train pretty well until the championship. I feel good from a lot of exercise. Unlike previous years, when I thought a lot about recovery and gathering energy. And then the body has almost gone into hibernation, and then you haven’t been in the shape you were in a few weeks before, he says.
Halfvarsson now hopes to, possibly, end his career with a good effort during a major championship in the back.
– No. There are some championships that I failed in. Now it’s just a matter of doing the right things at the end of my career so that I can walk away from a championship in any case.
