There have been many question marks and a great concern.
But now Calle Halfvarsson gives answers about his own future.
After the end of the World Cup in Lahtis comes the new message for the 34-year-old.

After some very tough years have Calle Halfvarsson found back to great shape again and the joy of cross-country skiing again. Last season, which was a complete disappointment, made the Swede think about whether it was time to end his career completely.

Calle reborn

This season has been completely different for the 34-year-old. Halfvarsson has really impressed at the World Cup during the year and has taken several podium places.

Even during the Ski World Cup 2023 in Planica, it was a reborn Calle who was so incredibly close to taking the very first individual World Cup medal of his career. But was beaten by the compatriot William Poromaa after a raging sprint duel in the five-mile.

Halfvarsson’s words

After the World Cup final in Finnish Lahtis over the weekend, where Halfvarsson took a fine second place in the sprint, another season is over for the Swedish national team veteran and therefore the big question is whether this was his last in his career. Already after the World Ski Championships, he announced that the desire is there to continue competing, but that he would think more about it.

But now the definitive message has come from the Swede.
– It will be another year, absolutely, he says to SVT Sport.
– I have been quite consistent this year and have been in the top ten in quite a few competitions. Then it’s fun and it motivates me to drive for another year.

Just like Jagr

But about the Swedish national team manager Anders Byström gets to decide, it will be considerably longer than just one more year for Halfvarsson.
– He has more to give before the WC at home in 2027, says Byström to the TV channel.
– At home, Sågmyra. He will then be 38 years old. It is not impossible. Jaromir Jagr plays hockey and is 58 years old, so it’s not impossible.

The comparison with Jaromir Jagr, who is “only” 51 years old, may be taking it a bit too far. But it is clear that we hope that Calle Halfvarsson has many good years left as a cross-country skier.
