Calle Halfvarsson turns 35 today – and reveals who his big idol is

He is by far the oldest in the Swedish national skiing team.
Today we pay tribute to veteran Calle Halfvarsson on his 35th birthday.
And the cross-country skier reveals his big idol in skiing.

Already in 2009 did Calle Halfvarsson debut at the World Cup and has remained for 15 years to this day. His real name is Carl-Christian and he is the blue-yellow skier who refuses to quit.

Through all the years at the World Cup, there have been three individual victories and two in teams and a total of 28 podium places. At the championships, there have been two WC silvers and one WC bronze, all in relays, and Halfvarsson is still waiting for his very first championship medal in his career.

During the World Ski Championships in 2023, it was incredibly close, but then Calle was snubbed on the run by his national team colleague William Poromaa who won the WC bronze in the five mile. The only gold medals from Halfvarsson’s career are JVM gold in sprint in 2008 and a SM gold in 15 km freestyle in 2015.

Calle’s great idol

Today, Calle Halfvarsson is by far the oldest in the Swedish national ski team and actually the only skier left who was born in the 80s. He has had to say goodbye to many teammates who have ended their careers and left cross-country skiing, but Calle – who turns 35 today – refuses to give up.

Now Halfvarsson reveals who has been his big idol as an athlete.
– When you were little it was Per Elofsson, now there are a lot of great sportsmen that you look up to – like Roger Federer and some footballers. But it’s not something I think about like that, he reveals in an interview with Dagens Nyheter.
