Calle Halfvarsson back at the World Cup again – accompanying the Swedish national skiing team to North America

The World Cup is back in North America.
Calle Halfvarsson is back in the World Cup.
The 34-year-old is included in the Swedish cross-country squad for the competitions in Canmore and Minneapolis, which begin next week.

Calle Halfvarsson fell ill with covid-19 just before Christmas but still chose to run both the Tour de Ski around New Year’s and in the German Oberhof at the beginning of the year. After not feeling a hundred, he then stood over the last World Cup weekend, in Goms, Switzerland.
“Calle Halfvarsson is back again after a week or so at home and we hope to get an energetic Calle back where he can find his way back to the form he had before Christmas,” says Sweden’s national team manager Anders Byström in a press release.

Also William Poromaawho returned home from Goms with cold symptoms, plans to start when the World Cup returns to North America next week for the first time in 20 years.

Otherwise, it is an expected squad, with the sprint cup leader Lynn Svahn and the shapely distance star Frida Karlsson at the head.
“For the sport’s attention and interest in North America, upcoming competitions are important to us. It will be exciting to experience the crowd pressure that is expected in Minneapolis above all – which is the hometown of World Cup leader Jessica Diggins. There are rumors of success in ticket sales and many thousands of spectators,” says Byström.

The races begin in Canmore, Canada, with four races in five days February 9-13 – two sprints and two distance races – before riders travel across the border to the US and Minneapolis for a sprint and a 10km race, February 17-18.
