Calle Halfvarsson and Frida Karlsson are now crushing Petter Northug’s dreams with cheeky dissent: “Born in the wrong country”

Petter Northug dreams of a comeback to the WC.
Now both Calle Halfvarsson and Frida Karlsson diss his chances.
– It will probably take a miracle for him to reach the championship, says Halfvarsson to SVT.

The Norwegian ski profile Peter Northug was one of the world’s best cross-country skiers for many years during his active time. He ended his career in 2018 but may now be on his way to something absolutely sensational.

Northug comeback?

After last weekend’s success where Northug came second in the 20 km classic in the Norwegian Cup, a dream has been brought to life. Can he possibly make a comeback to cross-country skiing again at 38?

Norway’s national team coach Eirik Myhr Nossum has already opened up that the legend could be relevant for the skiing WC on home ground in Trondheim in 2015. But now the Swedish skiers are dashing all hope.

The Swedish answer

Both Frida Karlsson and Calle Halfvarsson are extremely clear that Northug has no chance.
– He was born in the wrong country, I would say. Trying to fit into that team will be difficult. But it’s a lot of fun for the sport and the interest in the sport. He’s still one of the big names and it was cool that he came second. It’s fun!, says Frida to SVT.

Old archrival Halfvarsson completely agrees.
– Well, I don’t think so. It will probably take a miracle if Petter is to reach a championship on Norwegian home soil with as many talented skaters as there are, says Calle to the TV channel.
– I would be so happy if he reached the WC. That would be really cool but I don’t want to put my money on Petter Northug, unfortunately.

The national team colleague William Poromaa is nevertheless all the more hopeful.
– It is incredibly impressive (Northug’s second place) and you are happy for him. I haven’t met Petter so I hope he can get there, so I get to meet him. He can fight on now, he says in a statement.
