Developed by Infinity Ward, this sequel to the revered Modern Warfare of 2019 intends to restore the image of a license slightly in loss of speed after two rather average annual outings. If you’re itching to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we have good news for you: the beta periods start this week. Well, not for everyone, since Sony gamers still have a slight advantage over their Xbox and PC colleagues. Indeed the multiplayer beta will be divided into four periods, each open to different platforms. - September 16 and 17: early access to the game beta
- September 18 to 20: beta open to Playstation players
Xbox, PlayStation and PC:
- September 22 and 23: early access to the game beta

But before the beta dates, which are fast approaching, Activision and Infinity Ward have prepared a big event dedicated to the future of the franchise. The Call of Duty Next took place on September 15 last and offered us a plethora of new information on the gameplay of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This conference aims to present to the public the intentions of Activision and Infinity Ward (developer of MW2) regarding the future of the Licence. More concretely, this event will detail the program for the first seasons of the game, as well as some information on DMZ and Warzone 2, the two large-scale competitive game modes of Modern Warfare 2. If Modern Warfare 2 will not be a graphic revolution strictly speaking compared to its eldest of 2019, it intends to revolutionize its gameplay. The game brings with it a lot of new features, such as the ability to climb and cling to walls, dive and swim underwater. But not just in terms of movement, vehicles should feature more prominently in Modern Warfare 2’s gameplay, a little toe appeal to Battlefield players struggling with the quality of Battlefield 2042.
The weapon customization system has also been deepened, giving players the ability to create a weapon that looks just like them. Infinity Ward insisted on the asymmetry of this game mode which will offer one player to play on the ground, and the other to cover his comrade on the ground or in the air for example.
DMZ will be the new large-scale multiplayer game mode for Call of Duty Modern: Warfare 2. It is an extraction shooter (Escape from Tarkov-like) where different teams will be dropped on the Al Mazrah map (Warzone 2.0) with the aim of looting and extracting themselves safe and sound. The information given by Infinity Ward during Call of Duty Next was quite limited, but the principle of the game remains to provide a fairly hardcore experience for its players. It will be part of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and therefore will not be free-to-play, unlike Warzone 2.0
It is therefore the American studio Infinity Ward which is in charge of the development of this next release. Quite reassuring news when you consider his pedigree in terms of Call of Duty games. We owe him very popular episodes like Modern Warfare (2007) and Modern Warfare 2 (2009), but also Modern Warfare (2019) and soon Modern Warfare 2 (2022-2023). However, this announcement has enough to cool Playstation players, who could worry about the availability of Activision and Blizzard titles on their consoles. But Phil Spencer quickly brushed aside these concerns, saying that the game releases would indeed take place in the Xbox Game Pass, but also and at the same time on Playstation consoles.
