Announcing the decision at a press conference, McCarthy stated that Republicans in the House of Representatives put forward “serious and credible” allegations about Biden, and that the impeachment investigation will be conducted by James Comer, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Oversight and Accountability Committee.
Stating that he did not take the decision lightly and that it had nothing to do with his party, Republican McCarthy said, “I call on the House of Representatives Committee to open an official impeachment investigation against President Biden for abuse of power.” he said.
McCarthy claimed that Biden abused his power during his term as Vice President, and that his son Hunter Biden used his father’s position to obtain privileges in business dealings.
Arguing that Biden’s family received “special treatment” during his presidency, McCarthy said, “The American people need to know that public offices are not for sale.” said.
McCarthy noted that the evidence obtained will determine the process.
