Organizers of the Highgate Fair are looking for participants in this month’s parade.
The theme for the Highgate District Agricultural Society’s 168th parade is “Playin’ in the Dirt.”
A news release from the fair said they are looking for anyone to join in on the theme, “from youngsters making mudpies and building pint-sized farmsteads, to gardeners coaxing their beautiful and delicious bounty, to farmers who do it because they love it. ”
The event will be held Sept. 24. Participants are asked to meet at the Highgate Legion Branch 335 on King Street in time to be in position for judging at 11:30 am Entries not in place by that time will not be judged.
The parade will begin at 12 pm at the legion, proceeding north on King Street, east on Main Street, south on Victoria Street, east on Albert Street, north on Queen Street and concluding at the fairgrounds.
Parade participants are asked to remain on the fairgrounds for opening ceremonies and award presentations.
The categories and awards include: best children’s group presentation – $25; best float by an organization – $25; best theme float – $25; best decorated bicycle, wagon or stroller – $20; best dressed adult in costume – $20; best dressed child in superhero costume – $20; antique tractor – $20; antique or classic car – $20.
The agricultural society said it is also encouraging the public to come to the parade to “enjoy the fun from the sidelines.”
“From the musician who leads the way, to the fire trucks whose sirens signal the end of another year’s parade, there will be something for everyone,” the release said.
