Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom wants voter approval to borrow and invest about $6.4 billion for thousands of mental health facilities and housing for the mentally ill, drug addicts and homeless in California.
Despite some criticism of the enormous sum, opinion polls indicate that the proposal will be voted through.
– This is a beautiful city, but many suffer from mental illness and need help. There are many addicts and the two groups need help, says Jessie Rose, who is at a church service in a vulnerable area of San Francisco.
