The injuries were discovered during Sunday morning and the cable will belong to Latvia’s state radio and television center (LVRTC). The damaged part of the cable should also be in the Swedish economic zone.
LVRTC’s communications manager Vineta Spugaine tells LSM that the cable is believed to be seriously injured. However, the company says it continues to provide services through other data transfer paths.
The Latvian Navy must have been in contact with NATO allied, including Sweden, if the incident and its operating center should have carried out an analysis of ship movements in the area around the cable break.
Latvia’s Prime Minister Evika Silina has called for a meeting with responsible ministers and ministries as a result of the cable break.
