Member of Parliament Helena Lindahl (C) from Västerbotten supports Daniel Bäckström, the Center Party’s group leader and rural policy spokesperson, in the fight to become the party’s new leader. She writes that in a post on Facebook.

Lindahl is one of the party’s strongest opinion leaders and was herself prepared to succeed Annie Lööf – but fell out of the game when the selection was boiled down by the selection committee.

Lindahl describes Bäckström as the “obvious choice” and that he has a deep understanding of the different realities that exist within a party.

“He has come a long way from the unglamorous and often tough municipal politics in the countryside to complex considerations about the defense of the kingdom and the security of the Swedish people. He has made this political class trip and yet his boots are firmly anchored in the Värmland crowd,” she writes.

The party will appoint the next leader at the extraordinary party meeting on February 2 next year.
