Robin Press has signed a new contract in the KHL.
This makes the C More profile Lena Sundqvist react.
– It is incredibly strange, she says to Expressen.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many Swedes have chosen to break their contracts for games in other leagues. During the spring, the Swedish duo Adam Reideborn and Klas Dahlbeck received enormous criticism when they completed the contracts and won the KHL title with CSKA Moscow.
Great criticism
But until last week, no Swede had signed a new contract in Russia since the invasion. On the other hand, basketball player Jonas Jerebko had done so, and he received enormous criticism from the whole of sports Sweden after signing a new contract with CSKA Moscow.
But last week came the news that Robin Press, Swedish back star in Severstal Tjerepovets, chooses to extend his contract in the KHL. He received massive criticism – and now he is also seen by the C More profile Lena Sundqvist.
– I think it is an incredibly strange decision when a lot of other Swedish players are struggling to get out of their Russian contracts, then I think it is a strange decision to sign a contract in this situation, she says to Expressen.
“It’s pretty obvious”
Sundqvist believes that there was no reason for him to sign a new contract.
– It is quite obvious with the world situation that is right now and the invasion of Ukraine and that is exactly why many left the KHL and many wanted to get out of the contract because it is not a country you want to be in right now, she says.
She also compares with the basketball star Jerebko, who after signing for CSKA Moscow received the message that he is not welcome to the Swedish national team.
– I mean, that he writes is exactly as strange as that Jonas Jerebko chooses to do it, there is no difference between the two really.
