On Reddit, a user shows the fatal consequences that poor quality control in a graphics card factory can have.
What was the problem? According to his illustrated report in the subreddit pcmasterrace, Reddit user kentukky had overheating problems with his brand new RTX 4090 from Palit for weeks. It was apparently not as usable for him as intended.
What did support do? Judging by the Reddit user’s statements, they were not very helpful. He describes customer support as a joke. So he set about investigating the mystery himself. He dismantled the fan.

What did the user discover in his GPU? When he took his brand new RTX 4090 apart, the cause jumped out at him: the thermal pads were conspicuous by their absence; they were never installed in the factory. This meant that the crucial means for effective heat transfer from the chip and memory to the fan was missing.
Although the minimal heat transfer always prevented the graphics card from burning out, operation under high load was unthinkable.
Is the GPU running smoothly now? Yes, he was able to repair (or complete?) it with pads and thermal paste – without any help from the manufacturer. Now he uses the graphics card’s silent BIOS and can still enjoy temperatures of around 80 degrees, which are quite high but safe – so no more overheating.
