Why is the sci-fi film Children of Men worth watching?

Children of Men is one extremely bleak vision of the future, which at times feels like a punch in the pit of the stomach. We discover a world on the brink of collapse with Theo (Clive Owen). It was run down by man. As if nature wanted to finally put an end to this, sterility reigns. No child has been born for decades. Then Theo receives an unusual assignment: He is to bring the pregnant migrant Kee (Claire-Hope Ahitey) to safety.

We look over Theo’s shoulder just before a bomb explodes. We tear through the English countryside in a car at his side as deadly bullets whizz by. We’re always up close and personal with Children of Men and can literally taste the dusty air thanks to the sophisticated scene design.

Meanwhile, the impressive cast of Owen, Ahitey, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine and Chiwetel Ejiofor ensures that Children of Men is more than a technical exercise. If you liked the exciting staging of Gravity and Roma or just want to catch up on a modern classic, you should definitely see Children of Men.
