The well-rehearsed comedy duo, consisting of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is working on a new film project that, for once, does not contain animation or puppet theater. It’s about time, because they’ve been together since Team America in 2004 Grand viziers of offensive humor almost just put on more South Park and their musical hit The Book of Mormon.
The new project won’t be entirely without musical performances, because Parker and Stone have brought rapper and Grammy award winner Kendrick Lamar on board as their partner in comedy crime. Mmmkay.
A Get Out musical from the South Park creators?
The film project was announced during CinemaCon 2024 by Paramount Pictures and Lamar’s production company pgLang. According to Entertainment Weekly, it will be about a young African American who works as an intern at a history museum, where he acts as an enslaved person in the slavery exhibit. Past and present collide when he discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors had enslaved his ancestors.

It’s probably no coincidence that the film was released on… July 4, 2025, American Independence Day, is set to hit US cinemas. Sounds like that politically charged premise but it seems as if it were related to the horror satire Get Out and had a lot to say about it race and racism in the USA. The only question is whether Parker and Stone have the necessary sensitivity for the subject, or whether their parodic chainsaw approach still works for them.
How hot Team America made the puppets dance 20 years ago
You can tell how long it’s been 20 years by looking at some of the gags from Team America, the South Park duo’s last movie. But above all, it is and remains memorable a 90-second sex scene between the puppets Sarah and Gary, which was only seen in an uncut version on the unrated DVD.
It earned the theatrical version a harsh NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which was only downgraded to Rated-R after the cut. And that, even though it is… stiffness dolls. In an interview with the Columbia Chronicle, Trey Parker said the following:
It is absolutely the most ridiculous, stupid thing in the universe. Our dolls aren’t even anatomically correct, they don’t even have pubic hair – they’re dolls. And we put them in sexual positions, but obviously everything is completely implied. It’s a joke and the MPAA said: ‘No no no’. Meanwhile, we take other dolls that we, you know, blow their heads off, they’re covered in blood and stuff, but the MPAA had nothing to say about that.
If Parker and Stone’s new satirical prank sticks to its release date, it will be in theaters at the same time as Jurassic World 4 and James Gunn’s Superman film.
