Iranian police said on Sunday they had shut down more than 150 businesses that did not respect the hijab law, which requires women to cover their hair with a veil.
“Unfortunately, the police have been forced to close 137 shops and 18 restaurants that did not heed earlier warnings” regarding the dress code, said police spokesman Said Montazerolmahdi, according to the Iranian news agency Taznim.
The veiling law was introduced in Iran in 1983, four years after the Islamic revolution.
