Busch (KD): We need to renovate the welfare building

Ebba Busch gives her speech in Visby in pouring rain. There in the rain, she highlights Gotland’s strategic location, an island in the middle of the Baltic Sea that will become a NATO possession the day Sweden becomes a member.

– Soon, Swedish Gripen planes can protect the airspace in the Baltics and over the Black Sea. Turkey should be grateful for the help Sweden can provide, says Ebba Busch.

– Sweden will make the whole of NATO stronger, she continues.

Tough on

The Christian Democrats are struggling with failing public opinion figures. But Busch begins her speech by talking about the difference she believes the Christian Democrats have made in Swedish politics since the change of government after the last election.

For example, that the government tightens the law to get access to gang criminals, lowers the reduction obligation, has delivered the electricity subsidy and gives more double days for parents.

– A change of power was required for that to happen. It required that a government paralyzed by action be replaced by a government capable of action, says Busch.

– The reform train is moving along, and we have only just begun.

Busch also looks ahead in the speech. She highlights three areas, three supporting pillars in the building of society, as she puts it. It is about jobs, welfare and values. Areas for which the Christian Democrats will now develop new policies.

– We need to prepare for the jobs of the future, because there are jobs on the other side of the economic winter. We need to renovate the welfare building, because it is possible to get equal and good care throughout the country, says Busch.

Why do children shoot?

She also wonders what causes Sweden to have 179 shootings and 82 explosions in six months? And how to stop the wave of violence.

She finds part of the answer in a lack of values, what is right and wrong.

– We need to take back our common ethical mother tongue, because that is how we get common values to navigate from, says the KD leader.

– This is how we equip ourselves against the values of the street. This is how we equip our children with clear ideals. So we can make ethical demands on immigrants and refugees who come to our country.
