Bus weather approaching – SMHI issues several warnings

It will be windy, snowy and slippery.
SMHI has issued several snow warnings in connection with a new low pressure moving in over the country.
It is expected to be difficult on the roads tomorrow, says TV4’s meteorologist, Lovisa Svanberg.

A low pressure is approaching and SMHI has issued several yellow warnings for snowfall and strong winds. Already during the night, the first precipitation will come in over the country. In several places, up to ten centimeters of fresh snow is expected.

– It is mainly in the southwestern parts before the rest of the west coast is also reached by the precipitation. During the night, the precipitation area will then advance further and further east.

Several yellow warnings

From midnight to tomorrow morning, two yellow warnings apply for wind in combination with snowfall in western and inner parts of Götaland. There, the wind is expected to be strong, while around 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow may fall.

During Thursday, SMHI issued yellow snow warnings in northern Östergötland, Närke, parts of Sörmland, in southwestern Svealand, parts of eastern Svealand, northeasternmost Götaland. Locally there can be up to 15 centimeters of snow.

Makes it in traffic

– During the afternoon, the majority of the snowfall turns to rain and there is a risk that the rain is subcooled and freezes when it reaches the ground, says TV4’s meteorologist, Lovisa Svanberg.

The storm is expected to disrupt traffic. In central and northern Götaland as well as southern and eastern Svealand, you can expect slippage and snow formations on the roads.

– In addition, the roads may still be cold, so even if the rain is not freezing, icy conditions may occur.

In the Jämtlands and Härjedalsfjällen, the avalanche danger has been upgraded to a three on the five-point scale. Strong wind in combination with snowfall increases the risk of avalanches on steep slopes facing east and south, wrote TT.
