Bus shelter, vehicle hammered, man charged: Sarnia police

A Sarnia resident faces charges after a man with a hammer damaged a bus shelter and a vehicle, police say.

Officers responding to reports of a hammer-wielding man near 600 Murphy Rd. found a bus shelter’s glass had been smashed while about 30 people waited at a terminal, police said. No one was hurt and a suspect was quickly found and arrested.

Officers learned a suspect earlier followed a woman to her car in an Afton Drive parking lot, extensively damaged the auto with a hammer, then followed on foot, waving the hammer, as she drove away, police said. The woman wasn’t hurt.

A Sarnia man, 29, is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief and failing to comply with a release order and probation, police said.
