A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offenses against a student at a high school in Västerås where he works, the police write.
The student allegedly “sent intimate pictures of himself under duress”.
The man was arrested on probable cause on suspicion of gross exploitation of children for sexual posing, and was detained on Monday afternoon. He is also suspected of child pornography offences.
The assaults are said to have taken place from mid-December until last Friday, when he was arrested by the police.
Guardians are informed. There is no information if more students have been affected.

Now the number of shootings in 2024 is increased by around ten percent, from 270 to 296.
That’s still down from a total of 368 shootings in 2023.
“The reason for this is technical problems with the reporting”, writes the police.
The number of injured is counted from 57 to 66, while the number of deceased remains at 44 in total.
That is a decrease from 54 dead and 108 injured in 2023.

An injured man came into the emergency room in Järva in Stockholm today.
– He had stab wounds. He had to go by ambulance from there to a hospital, says Mats Eriksson at the police in Stockholm.
The police are now investigating what happened and who inflicted the injuries on the man.
– We have started a preliminary investigation concerning serious assault, says Mats Eriksson.

A sample from a remote part of northern Tanzania confirms the presence of Marburg virus, President Samia Suluhu announces. The disease is highly contagious and can lead to death in 88 percent of cases if no treatment is given.
The World Health Organization (WHO) was the first to report a suspected outbreak of the Marburg virus last week. At the time, eight people had died in the Kagera region.
Tanzanian health officials then disputed the report, stating that tests had returned negative results. But now the president confirms that new tests have confirmed a case of the disease. 25 samples gave negative results.
Marburg virus is an RNA virus belonging to the filovirus family, which causes hemorrhagic fever (hemorrhagic fever).

Agent who protected Trump becomes new Secret Service chief

Now the president-to-be intends to appoint agent Sean Curran as the new head of the entire Secret Service, the police agency tasked with protecting the president and vice president, writes Guardian.
Curran has been in charge of Trump’s security for three years.

– There were several inmates who had given themselves to a lone inmate in the same department, says Ulf Mossberg, press secretary at the Correctional Service.
All had to be separated and taken into their rooms. The condition of the person who was assaulted is unclear.
– When something like this happens, the whole department is separated. The entire department is segregated and they are not allowed to stay in any areas, says Ulf Mossberg.
The incident occurred at 1 p.m. on Monday.

Two parents are suspected of abusing their own infant in Västmanland County.
– We became aware of the case on Friday morning when we were alerted by the hospital staff that an infant had come in with serious injuries, says Stefan Larsson, spokesperson for police region Mitt.
The child must have suffered serious head injuries, according to the police.
Both parents were arrested at the hospital, the mother was then released, but the suspicions remain. Now the father has been arrested, writes Expressen.
The parents’ residence has been cordoned off for a technical examination.

Yesterday, Joe Biden announced that he is pardoning five people. In a statement from the White House, it appeared that it involved civil rights activist Marcus Garvey, who died in 1940 and was convicted of mail fraud in 1923. He was pardoned posthumously.
In December, Joe Biden pardoned his own son Hunter, who was convicted of weapons offenses and who was also guilty of tax crimes.

Leading fuel chains raise the price of petrol. The target price of 95-octane petrol at manned stations is increased by 15 öre to SEK 17.24 per litre.
The prices of diesel and other fuels are left unchanged. The diesel price was lowered on Friday and is currently at SEK 18.89 per litre.
