School employee detained for sexual offense against student

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offenses against a student at a high school in Västerås where he works, the police write.

The student allegedly “sent intimate pictures of himself under duress”.

The man was arrested on probable cause on suspicion of gross exploitation of children for sexual posing, and was detained on Monday afternoon. He is also suspected of child pornography offences.

The assaults are said to have taken place from mid-December until last Friday, when he was arrested by the police.

Guardians are informed. There is no information if more students have been affected.

Frontal collision in Knivsta – one to hospital

Two cars collided head-on on Forsbyvägen in Knivsta on Monday afternoon.

Police, emergency services and an ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident, where one person was taken to hospital according to the police.

The accident affects traffic along Forsbyvägen.

Two arrested for suspected murder in Stockholm

Early last Saturday, a dead person was found by passers-by in Vårby farm in southern Stockholm.

The police are tight-lipped about the victim, but confirm that two people have been arrested and detained on suspicion of involvement in the crime.

A nearby apartment was also examined by police forensics.

On Saturday, the cause of death was not determined and the police opened a preliminary investigation into murder.

The police are counting the number of shootings

Previously, the police reported that the number of shootings, and thus the number of dead and injured, decreased sharply from 2023 to 2024.

Now the number of shootings in 2024 is increased by around ten percent, from 270 to 296.

That’s still down from a total of 368 shootings in 2023.

“The reason for this is technical problems with the reporting”, writes the police.

The number of injured is counted from 57 to 66, while the number of deceased remains at 44 in total.

That is a decrease from 54 dead and 108 injured in 2023.

A man came in with a stab wound

An injured man came into the emergency room in Järva in Stockholm today.

– He had stab wounds. He had to go by ambulance from there to a hospital, says Mats Eriksson at the police in Stockholm.

The police are now investigating what happened and who inflicted the injuries on the man.

– We have started a preliminary investigation concerning serious assault, says Mats Eriksson.

Person trapped under backhoe

The police were called to the island of Mällsten outside Nynäshamn in Stockholm’s southern archipelago because a person had a shovel run over him during some kind of digging work.

– The person must have initially been trapped but got free. The extent of the damage is unclear but should not be life-threatening, says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.

Man found dead in residence

A man has been found dead in a home in Rinkeby.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into murder.

– It is currently under unclear circumstances that this person has died. We received the alarm at a quarter past one, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson at the police.

Relatives have been notified, according to the police.

Marburg virus outbreak confirmed in Tanzania

A sample from a remote part of northern Tanzania confirms the presence of Marburg virus, President Samia Suluhu announces. The disease is highly contagious and can lead to death in 88 percent of cases if no treatment is given.

The World Health Organization (WHO) was the first to report a suspected outbreak of the Marburg virus last week. At the time, eight people had died in the Kagera region.

Tanzanian health officials then disputed the report, stating that tests had returned negative results. But now the president confirms that new tests have confirmed a case of the disease. 25 samples gave negative results.

Marburg virus is an RNA virus belonging to the filovirus family, which causes hemorrhagic fever (hemorrhagic fever).

A fight has broken out at the Fosieanstalten in Malmö. One inmate has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

All had to be separated and taken into their rooms. The condition of the person who was assaulted is unclear.

– When something like this happens, the whole department is separated. The entire department is segregated and they are not allowed to stay in any areas, says Ulf Mossberg.

The incident occurred at 1 p.m. on Monday.

Parents are suspected of abusing their infant

Two parents are suspected of abusing their own infant in Västmanland County.

– We became aware of the case on Friday morning when we were alerted by the hospital staff that an infant had come in with serious injuries, says Stefan Larsson, spokesperson for police region Mitt.

The child must have suffered serious head injuries, according to the police.
