Bus driver sentenced for fatal accident in Lund

The 66-year-old man was hit by a regional bus when he crossed a pedestrian crossing with his dog in central Lund in mid-December last year. The man was so seriously injured that he died the next day.

The 71-year-old driver is now sentenced to a suspended sentence for causing the death of another and negligence in traffic. He must also pay SEK 60,000 in damages, which South Sweden be the first to tell.

Denies crime

The accident happened when the bus from Skånetrafiken came from Kung Oscar’s bridge and was about to turn onto Spolegatan. The bus driver claims that he has not lost his attention or acted negligently, but the course of events has been covered in detail with, among other things, witness statements and video from the bus’s surveillance camera.

The driver claims that he did not see the pedestrian at all, but the court writes that for a professional driver “the failure to make sure that no pedestrian was on the crosswalk must be considered to constitute such a serious lack of caution that it is a matter of traffic negligence.”
