Bus driver drove with 2.94 alcohol – teachers stopped children from riding

The incident occurred in May last year and the driver is said to have driven children to a school during the day, which Sydsvenskan was the first to report on. When he later went to pick up school children from another school, the children’s teacher refused to let them get on the bus because the driver was wobbly and difficult to contact.

Later, the driver was involved in a traffic accident and fled the scene. The accident did not result in any injuries.

– I claim that he had a responsible task this day because he is driving school children, says prosecutor Erik Rivarola.

A bottle of alcohol was found by the driver’s colleague hidden in a hatch in the bus. When he was stopped by the police, two bottles were found in a bag. One unopened and one almost empty.

The driver says in questioning that he has sought help for his addiction from outpatient care and joined Alcoholics Anonymous.

– I am very sorry for those who have been affected, he says.

He is now charged with gross drunk driving, gross negligence in traffic and contamination from the scene of a traffic accident.
