The meeting room of the Brazzaville Chamber of Commerce was packed: several bus and taxi drivers in the city temporarily suspended their activity to come and listen to the leaders of their union. For the latter, the measure taken by government authorities to suspend the driving tax, following the increase in the price of fuel, only benefits employers in the transport sector, but not employees. To balance the situation, they are invited to enlist, which will make it possible to create a file so that they can benefit from state assistance.
“ The State asked us to produce a file which must have an exhaustive list of all those who work in Congo as bus drivers, taxi drivers and other means of public transport. In our country, there is nowhere a file of transporters operating in the sector. », indicated Cyrille Ndzoundou, the president of the union of transporters and related activities of Congo.
For this operation which begins this week, those concerned must provide some documents.
“ Enrollment is based on evidence. You have to prove exactly that you are a driver. A taxi driver must produce his license and the registration document of the vehicle he is driving. », explained Mr. Ndzoundou
The operation will be carried out by the Congolese Employment Agency (ACPE) throughout the Congolese territory.
