The Burundi team lost 4-2 the first match in its history in the final phase of the Women’s African Cup of Nations against a selection from Botswana, also a CAN debutant, on July 4, 2022 in Rabat. The Batswana scored through Keitumetse Dithebe (43rd), Lesego Radiakanyo (47th) and Refilwe Thokalele (55th, 60th). Sandrine Niyonkuru, author of a double (52nd, 81st), including a superb volley, scored the first goals in the history of Burundi in this competition.
