Burning residential buildings in Moscow after drone attack

Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday morning that 144 Ukrainian drones were shot down over nine Russian regions. 20 of them flew over the Moscow region and drone parts hit residential buildings. According to the Russian defense, it is the largest attack on the capital region so far.

Three airports were closed

During the drone strike, Zshukovskoye, Demodedovo and Vnukovo airports were closed. 48 aircraft were diverted to other airports, according to the Russian Civil Aviation Authority.

  • Several residential buildings near Zshukovskoye airport were hit and a woman in her 40s is said to have been killed, at least two people are said to be seriously injured.

    – Shock, stress. We ran, but managed to take the dog with us, it was like in a horror movie. It was really scary, a resident told the state news agency RIA Novosti.

    Second major drone attack in a short time

    On September 1, 15 regions were attacked and the Russian air defense said 158 drones were shot down in what was described as the largest Ukrainian drone strike to date.

    Since the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has carried out almost daily attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, killing more than 10,000 civilians, according to the United Nations.
