Four games, three wins and a draw. With ten points, Burkina Faso is qualified for the final phase of the CAN in Côte d’Ivoire next year.
After snatching victory on the wire in the first leg (1-0), the Stallions drew this Tuesday, March 28 in Lomé (1-1). Dango Ouattara opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while Kodjo Laba equalized for Togo in the 26th minute. With the defeat of Eswatini against Cape Verde (0-1) during the day, Burkina Faso was guaranteed to obtain its qualification in the event of a victory or a draw.
During the first round, the victory had taken a long time to take shape for the Stallions who had fallen on a tough team from Togo. It was not until the last moments of the match to see Edmond Tapsoba, central defender of Bayer Leverkusen, release his team with a goal in the 87th minute. The Stallions had been full of confidence last fall by chaining three victories in friendly matches. They had beaten DR Congo, Comoros and Côte d’Ivoire, host country of the next CAN.
Burkina Faso are accustomed to the final stages in recent years. Finalists in 2013 and semi-finalists in 2017 and 2021, the Stallions will certainly be up to the occasion in Côte d’Ivoire.
